Understanding the Height Requirements for Fire Extinguishers in Spain

Are you wondering if it's necessary to change the height of your fire extinguishers? Let's dive into the regulations and understand the implications.

According to the RIPCI (Regulation of Fire Protection Installations), fire extinguishers should be placed between 80 and 120 cm above the ground. For installations after December 12, 2017, this is mandatory to comply with the regulation.

However, if your installation predates the RIPCI, the previous regulation (Real Decreto 1942/93) applies, with extinguishers required at a height "lower than 1.70 m". In such cases, changes aren't obligatory unless municipal regulations state otherwise.

The insistence to lower extinguishers often stems from accessibility standards, such as those outlined in the Technical Building Code. While not legally binding, it's a consideration for inclusivity and safety.

Ultimately, while there's a recommendation to lower extinguishers for accessibility, it's not a legal requirement unless specified by municipal regulations. Understanding these nuances can help navigate maintenance requirements effectively.

By adhering to regulations and considering accessibility standards, businesses can ensure their fire protection systems are both compliant and accessible.
